Gosh! It’s been a long time since I wrote my last blog, in that time I have; seen six theatrical productions, celebrated four staff members’ birthdays, and eaten well over 30 pastries! (Not all at once, of course!)
TYPT 08 was amazing. Brilliant performances which fed off the huge amount of time and effort put in by the talented creative team. I really enjoyed working with the next generation of actors & am confident that they will become the stars of the not-too-distant future.
Meanwhile Alan Stacey has left and has been replaced temporarily by Jackie Friend. Jackie, unlike Alan, has a shoe fetish to rival my own shoe obsession which means we’ve been getting along like a house on fire!
Jackie has been using my legendary admin skills to assist her in marketing our new series of script readings Flipping the Script. The first four play season entitled Manz Like Me starts on the 18th September at the Young Vic. I am really excited about this project: I am (quite) bored with seeing the same characters and stories on stage supposedly reflecting the life of Black men. The scripts we have collected are diverse and will inform any who may not know, that the lives of Black men vary and should not be stereotyped or pigeon-holed.
The concept behind Flipping the Script is very much in keeping with my own opinions on dominant ideologies and stereotypes. Do not accept definitions that others provide you. Flip the Script on them and be who you want to be.
